On March 23, 1950, Roy Richards, Sr. started a wire and cable company in Carrollton, Ga. Beginning with only 12 team members and three used machines, Richards had a simple vision – to bring electric light to his grandmother’s home. 75 years later, that same company – Southwire – is now North America’s leader in wire and cable with more than 9,000 team members around the world and an incredible story to share.
To honor this milestone and to commemorate the company’s anniversary month, Mayor Betty Cason of the City of Carrollton and Chairman Michelle Morgan of the Carroll County Board of Commissioners recently presented official proclamations to the Southwire team.
“It was an honor for Mayor Cason and Chairman Morgan to share these meaningful words and commemorate our milestone anniversary,” said Rich Stinson, Southwire’s President and CEO. “We’re taking the time to celebrate with our team members, customers, partners and stakeholders all year long. We are proud to reflect on our incredible legacy, celebrate our growth and success and build excitement and anticipation for the future of our company and our industry.”
The proclamations were presented at a company event held in conjunction with Southwire’s Women’s Network employee resource group in honor of both Women’s History Month and Southwire’s 75th anniversary. As a special nod to the 75th milestone, the gathering was located at the Southwire Company Utility Products Plant, which was the site of the company’s first manufacturing operations in 1950.
“We were incredibly excited for the opportunity to recognize this milestone with the Southwire team,” said Mayor Cason. “Southwire is such a vital part of our community, our state, our nation and our world, and it gives us such a great sense of pride to say that Southwire is headquartered here in Carrollton, Georgia. We are grateful for our continued partnership and wish the company a very happy 75th anniversary!”
“On behalf of the citizens of Carroll County, it was a true honor to present this proclamation and to celebrate 75 years of momentum and economic impact,” said Chairman Morgan. “Southwire means so much to me and to our community. It was wonderful to spend time with the team and to be inspired by how the legacy Mr. Richards began lives on through the hard work, commitment and passion of its people as it continues to advance and grow. We congratulate and commend the company on their 75th anniversary.”
As the company continues to celebrate its 75th year, stories and highlights are being shared regularly on Southwire’s Newsroom and social media pages. Visit www.southwire.com/newsroom for more information.
