Guyton Cochran, Southwire’s executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has been elected Treasurer of the University of Georgia (UGA) Foundation Board of Trustees.

The UGA Foundation Board of Trustees approved changes in leadership and new board positions during its annual meeting in Greensboro, Ga., on June 9. These officers were elected by the board and will serve two-year terms.

"Trustees of the UGA Foundation are committed to focusing on UGA's future by providing financial support and guidance to the university throughout the year," said Jill S. Walton, interim vice president for development and alumni relations and interim executive director of the UGA Foundation. "We can't thank our incoming board leaders enough, including Guyton, for all they have and will continue to do to drive UGA forward for this generation and those to come."

According to its website, the UGA Foundation was founded in 1937 with the mission of providing support for the teaching, research, public service and outreach programs of the University of Georgia by means of volunteer leadership and assistance in development and fundraising activities.

The UGA Foundation Board of Trustees oversees the organization’s work. Trustees lead and promote fundraising activities, accept and steward donor funds and manage the financial assets of the Foundation for the long-term benefit and enhancement of the university. Trustees also offer broad advice, consultation and support to university leadership.

“Volunteer leadership and assistance is core to the Foundation’s success, and I am honored to serve in an officer capacity in the coming year,” said Guyton Cochran, executive vice president and CFO. “I look forward to helping UGAF’s mission of securing and managing private support for university priorities.”
