The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has named John Wirtz, Southwire’s senior vice president of Utility, as the Chair of its Grid Sector Leadership Committee.

“I am honored to chair NEMA’s Grid Sector Leadership Committee, recognizing the critical role of a reliable grid powering our economy,” said Wirtz. “It’s an honor to lead a distinguished group of professionals dedicated to ensuring the grid’s stability while planning for a sustainable, all-electric future.”

NEMA represents over 300 electrical equipment and medical imaging manufacturers that make safe, reliable, and efficient products and systems. These companies are responsible for 1.65 million American jobs and contribute more than $200 billion to the U.S. economy.

“A strong power grid is vital to delivering affordable, reliable and clean energy to all Americans. NEMA’s Grid Sector Leadership Committee is accelerating grid resilience and reliability during this critical moment in the energy transition, and we are thrilled to welcome John as chair of this committee,” said Debra Phillips, NEMA’s president and CEO. “John’s extensive expertise in the electrical industry and in his leadership role at Southwire will be invaluable as NEMA and our members pioneer solutions that will deliver an all-electric future.”

As he leads this committee, Wirtz’s knowledge and skillset will add value to NEMA’s ongoing efforts to develop standards, recommend government policies and use business intelligence for better decision-making across the entire electrical manufacturing industry.
