Southwire Company, one of North America’s leading manufacturers of wire and cable products, announced a partnership agreement today with Swiss manufacturer Kummler+Matter AG (K+M), a Colas Rail company, for the distribution of electrified rail system hardware and solutions designed for Overhead Contact Systems (OCS) in mass transit applications.

Complementing Southwire’s extensive wire and cable catalog for OCS systems, over 400 K+M specialty components will be available directly through Southwire, bringing existing and new product solutions to U.S. transit authorities.

“K+M is widely recognized and trusted by the transit industry for its innovation, quality and breadth of solutions,” said Eric Parsons, Director, Strategic Verticals for Mass Transit at Southwire. “We are excited to add K+M’s technology into our ever-expanding portfolio of critical assets for Overhead Contact Systems and deliver complete solutions that reduce disruption and maximize uptime in mass transportation operations.

The K+M KUSEC co-manufactured section insulators will incorporate Southwire’s SouthWear® 30% wear indicator contact wire. Southwire will also be the North American supplier of K+M’s innovative KUPRO de-icing system for the prevention of ice build-up on various industry-related structures. An evolving list of K+M components distributed through Southwire is available here.
