Continuing the company’s strong commitment to the places it calls home, Southwire will host its annual Community Day on Saturday, October 6, in Carrollton, Ga. Headlining the entertainment for the annual event will be Morris Day and the Time.

With his dynamic dancing and smooth, yet gutsy, vocals, Morris Day played an essential role in the development of the Twin City dance/club sound of the 1980s. A founding member of the late Prince's band, the Time, in 1981, he remained with the group until 1984 when he launched his solo career. Returning for the first time in 1988, he performed and recorded with the Time from 1990 until 1991 and since 1995. Day has also appeared in such films as Prince’s autobio-pic, Purple Rain, in 1984, and New Attitude in 1990.

“We are excited to welcome Morris Day and the Time to Carrollton, and we look forward to a great evening of funk- and soul-inspired music,” said Kristian Whittington, manager of employee engagement and communication and Project GIFT coordinator. “Community Day is a time for us to say thank you to our community partners, friends and neighbors, and our plans for the event reflect this commitment.”

Community Day 2018 will kick off with electronics recycling at Southwire’s corporate headquarters in partnership with Keep Carroll Beautiful. Collection will begin at 9:00 a.m. in Southwire’s corporate parking lot and will last until 1:00 p.m. There is no cost to donate e-waste at this event.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Southwire through our Fall Electronics Recycling event and are thankful for a company that is actively participating as an environmental champion for our area,” said Amanda Lamb, executive director of Keep Carroll Beautiful. “As part of Southwire’s Community Day, we encourage you to stop by and help us keep e-waste out of landfills!”

Keeping its long-standing tradition of and commitment to transparency and sharing the company’s story, plant tours of Southwire facilities will also be available during e-recycling. Shuttles for tours will depart from Southwire’s corporate parking lot. More details on these tours will be available in the coming weeks.

Community Day will culminate at The Amp at Adamson Square beginning at 6 PM with opening act, AJ Ghent. Ghent fuses the sounds of his Singing Guitar with rock, blues, funk and pop into what he likes to call Neo Blues. The musical art produced has been classified as witty, energetic, soulful and funky, with messages of positivity, love and overcoming hardships.

He has had a colorful career thus far, playing and opening for acts like Zac Brown, The Allman Brothers Band, Derek Trucks, Robert Cray and Gov’t Mule. He can be heard on various recordings with Zac Brown and Luther Dickinson and is featured on Zac Brown’s 2013 Grohl Sessions Vol. 1 alongside Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters.) AJ has reached thousands worldwide with his Singing Guitar, becoming a viral sensation online, and taking music lovers on a true journey at live shows.

Following Ghent’s performance, Morris Day and the Time will take the stage as the event’s headliners, seeking to share their funk and soul-inspired talent, as well as a little bit of nostalgia, with the west Georgia community.
